  6.  First  things  first:  We  wish  to  thank  a  bunch of people  for their
  7.  contributions, without which, QuickBBS v2.75 would not exist.  First, the
  8.  BETA team.   Without their efforts,  frustrations, testing, loss of data,
  9.  and feedback,  it would be  difficult, if not  impossible to  produce the
  10.  quality product that QuickBBS v2.75 is.
  11.  
  12.  Special  thanks  to  Max von der Horst (1:363/320), whose efforts as beta
  13.  team co-ordinator, whose friendship, whose advice and council have made a
  14.  significant improvement in the quality of QuickBBS, and without whom,  it
  15.  is likely that QuickBBS v2.75 would never have been.
  16.  
  17.  Other major players include Darrell Cadwallader & Kenneth Wall who  spent
  18.  significant portions of their past year, documenting, testing, and coding
  19.  large portions of QuickBBS.  Their efforts show markedly in this release.

  38.  enhancements and  does not  necessarily  describe  how  these  are  used.
  39.  This is by no means an exhaustive list.

  47. Multi-node operation
  48. -----------------------------------------------------------------------
  49.  
  50. * QuickBBS is now multi-node.  Use of an external multitasker such as
  51.   Desqview 386 or use of a LAN allows operation of several copies of
  52.   QuickBBS to allow multiple local and remote users.
  53.  
  54. * QuickBBS will now detect the presence of a multitasker or AT-BIOS,
  55.   and supply proper time-slices where applicable.
  56.  
  57. * Enhanced full screen editor interface allows external full screen
  58.   editors such as TopEd to display extended information while a user
  59.   is entering a message
  60.  
  61. * Added new menu types to display list of users currently on-line,
  62.   and the ability to send/receive messages to/from each line.

  64. + A real-time multi-node chat feature has been added to allow for
  65.   communication between nodes.

  69. * New message base locking code has been added to allow QuickBBS to

  80. * Added detection of remote caller ANSI capabilities.  QuickBBS will
  81.   determine whether or not a caller is capable of ANSI graphics and
  82.   display the opening copyright notice in color.  Also, optional use of 
  83.   the full screen editor is enabled if ANSI is detected, even if the 
  84.   user has chosen not to have the color screens displayed.
  85.  
  86. * An internal split-screen chat facility has been added.
  87.   can decide whether or not the full or 'regular' chat functions are
  88.   used.
  89.  
  90. * QuickBBS now incorporates a fully configurable internal call-back
  91.   verification system.
  92.  
  93. * The sysop status bar has been enhanced and expanded to 5 screens.
  94.   The bar is now continually updated, even while a user is transferring
  95.   a file.  Options such as user's time remaining and security levels
  96.   can be changed while the user is within the file transfer.

  98. * File download/upload ratios can now be enforced through LIMITS.CTL
  99.  
  100. * QCONFIG was totally rewritten to take advantage of QuickBBS's new
  101.   features and provide a more user-friendly configuration utility.

  103. * 'Look and feel' of many sysop and user prompts was changed.  You can
  104.   now also delete any default value within a prompt by pressing CTRL-X.
  105.  
  106. * QuickBBS can now swap itself out to disk or any EMS memory available
  107.   on any type 7 DOS shell or when using the full-screen editor.
  108.  
  109. * There is now a feature that will allow you to perform shell commands
  110.   from within a text file.  Security of this option is also maintained
  111.   through QCONFIG.
  112.  
  113. * The local screen is now saved before a sysop DOS shell (ALT-J) and is
  114.   restored upon return.  QuickBBS will also change the prompt in a DOS
  115.   shell to remind you that you are shelled from QuickBBS.
  116.  
  117. * User passwords have been made case insensitive.
  118.  
  119. * Longer lines in FILES.BBS are now wrapped onto the next line
  120.  
  121. * The BBS will now re-load EXITINFO.BBS on a type 7 shell, so that most
  122.   external doors can be used as a type 7 instead of a type 15 exit.

  124. * Users can now change their own home/voice or business/data telephone
  125.   numbers through two new menu types.
  126.  
  127. * Aliases are now supported.  Users can now pick their own aliases
  128.   (QuickBBS will now also check to make sure no two users use the same
  129.   name) as well as allowing the sysop to configure which message bases
  130.   aliases are permitted.  Users can also use their alias instead of
  131.   their real name at log-in.  Any mail addressed to the alias will be
  132.   picked up if the user logged in with his or her real name and vice
  133.   versa.

  135. * When replying to a message, you are no longer asked if you wish to
  136.   quote the message.  QuickBBS now passes the quoted text onto the
  137.   message editor by default (when using an external editor) and the
  138.   user may decide to use the quote by using the quoting functions within
  139.   the editor.
  140.  
  141. * The capability to change the destination or subject of a message has
  142.   been completely revamped.
  143.  
  144. * QuickBBS can now 'simulate' line noise to make it easier for discreet
  145.   sysop hang-ups.
  146.  
  147. * The system usage graph was revamped and is now displayed using ANSI
  148.   graphics instead of text graphics.
  149.  
  150. * Full support of file and message area templates was added.
  151.  
  152. * Support for points and pointnets has been added in the netmail section.
  153.  
  154. * NetMail cost accounting now is properly supported.

  156. * QuickBBS now supports the passing of a baudrate of 38400 or 14400 on the 
  157.   command line.

  159. * Code optimization now makes it possible to run QuickBBS (overlay
  160.   version) in under 210K of RAM.

  162. * USEREDIT was completely re-written and redesigned.  You can now edit
  163.   _every_ field within the user record.  Use of a pointing device such as
  164.   a mouse is now also supported.

  166. * Birthday and sex information can now be stored in the userfile.  QuickBBS
  167.   also has the ability to display a customized message to the user on
  168.   his/her birthday.

  170. * The local flag is now set when a message is forwarded.

  174. * When entering a message, the default security is now PUBLIC, unless
  175.   the original message was PRIVATE.

  177. * File transfer protocols can now be selectively activated or deactivated

  180.   is on-line by using an internal user editor.

  182. * Menu text items can now be centered within the menu itself.

  227.   used after a SetFlag or SetSecurity which will affect the user's access
  228.   to file and/or message areas.
